About Us

Family, Craftsmanship, and Compassion

A family with generations of bereavement experience, creating memorial jewellery with care, dignity, and understanding.

Introduction

Devall & Son Memorial Jewellery was born from something deeply personal: a family's lifetime of supporting others through loss.

We understand that choosing memorial jewellery is not a simple purchase. It is an act of love, a way of holding on, a quiet decision made during one of life's most difficult moments.

That understanding shapes everything we do.

From the way we welcome you into our showroom, to the way we handle your loved one's ashes, to the way we craft each piece by hand, everything is built around one principle: you deserve gentleness, clarity, and time.

Our Story

Our family has supported bereaved families for generations. We have sat with people in their grief. We have listened. We have learned what truly matters when someone is navigating loss.

What we discovered is that families often feel rushed, overwhelmed, or uncertain when choosing something as personal as memorial jewellery. Many felt uncomfortable sending ashes through the post. Others simply wanted to see and hold a piece before making a decision.

So we created something different.

We opened a calm, private showroom in Nuneaton where you can explore our jewellery collection in person. You can try pieces on, compare metals, and take as long as you need. If you prefer not to post ashes, you can bring them to us and we will fill your jewellery on site.

No pressure. No expectations. Just space to choose what feels right.

Maurice Devall

He entered the funeral profession at the age of 15 as a carpenter and Joiner in Crewe, Cheshire and progressed to becoming a Funeral Director. In 1947 he became Assistant Manager for the Nuneaton & Atherstone Co-Operative society where he earned a wonderful reputation for serving the bereaved within the local community. Maurice passed away suddenly in June 1969 aged 52 years.

David Devall

At 18, David (following in his father’s footsteps) began his career with Co-Operative Funeralcare, in Nuneaton. He rose through the company ranks—earning his qualifications in both funeral directing and embalming along the way—and by the age of 26 he had been promoted to Regional Operations Manager in the Bristol and Bath area. But he still felt he could do more, so, along with Stephanie, they established Devall & Son. Although David and Stephanie have since gone their separate ways in their personal lives, they both still have a pivotal role in the business.

Stephanie Devall

Stephanie began her career in the funeral profession when she left school in 1980. She worked for the Bristol/Bath Co-Operative funeral service as a receptionist, and in less than a year, she progressed to the role of funeral arranger. At 17 she started her British Institute of Embalmers qualification, where she met David. She continued to climb the industry ladder, gaining her Diploma in Funeral Directing along the way, until 1986 where she and David came back to Nuneaton to start the family business.

Jonathan Bambury

After leaving school in 1987 David’s nephew, Jonathan, joined the family business. By 1992 he gained his Diploma in Funeral Directing and in 2008 passed his NVQ in Construction Of Monumental Masonry Safety. He is now responsible for managing our Monumental Masonry department, along with the general day-to-day running and development of the business.

Daniel Devall

In 2006, Daniel followed in his parent’s footsteps and became the third generation of Devall’s to join the funeral industry. He immediately began learning the ropes and by the age of 18 was arranging and conducting funerals. In 2011 Daniel gained his NAFD Diploma in Funeral Directing and became a member of the British Institute of Funeral Directors. David handed over the reins as Managing Director to Daniel in June 2018 and he is now responsible for developing the business and upholding the standards his parents have set.

What We Believe

Compassion First

Grief is not something to be rushed through. Every interaction we have is guided by patience, kindness, and emotional understanding. We never push. We never hurry. We simply support.

Craftsmanship Matters

Every piece of jewellery we create is handmade in the UK by skilled jewellers. We do not mass produce. We do not outsource overseas. Each piece is crafted slowly, carefully, and with intention.

Trust is Earned

When you entrust us with your loved one's ashes or hair, we treat them with absolute respect. Our chain of custody is meticulous. Nothing is ever mixed, misplaced, or handled carelessly. You can trust us completely.

Experience Makes a Difference

Our family has supported bereaved families for generations. That experience gives us a depth of understanding that shapes everything we do. We know what families worry about, often the things they do not say out loud. And we have built our entire process to address those concerns before you even have to ask.

A Space Built for You

Our Nuneaton showroom is not a typical retail environment.

It is a calm, private space designed specifically for families choosing memorial jewellery. When you visit, you will be welcomed without pressure. You can see every piece in our collection, feel the weight, compare styles, and ask any questions you have.

If you would like us to fill your jewellery on site, we can do that too. Many families find this option deeply reassuring. You hand the ashes to us in person, you see where everything is kept, and you leave knowing your loved one is in safe hands.

Private appointments are available if you would prefer a quieter visit.
